I'll save you the time of trying others. This is so good. Go ahead and do yourself the favor of whipping this up. If you have a garden, go ahead and get as much as you can fresh. I only have the tomatoes, but I bought the other ingredients locally.
YOU NEED:
1/2 bushel tomatoes
5 large yellow onions
5 large green bell peppers
1/4 cup salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup vinegar
6 jalapenos for mild salsa- add more if you want kick! USE GLOVES when you chop them up.
1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
Mind you, I was doing this at 1 a.m. It's the time I have to myself after the kiddos have went to bed, I've completed all my other work around the house and I can actually devote some time to my things-to-do list that isn't as pressing as work or family commitments. I'm not going to write out step-by-step instructions, as the original post that is linked here does an excellent job walking you through the steps. Just know that it's worth your time. I wish I could attach smell to this blog post. You'd make it yet today!
As a college student, one of my favorite go-to snacks is chips with salsa! Thank you for sharing this. I will have to give it a try sometime! It appears that it might be simple enough for someone like me. I also find it very impressive that you grow your own tomatoes! That must be very satisfying. Finally, wow! I can barely stay up past 9 p.m. so I could not imagine making salsa at 1 a.m.! Of course, I do not have children yet, but still. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love chips and salsa, I feel like this blog was just made for me to read! I will definitely be making this in the near future so thank you for posting this. I have created some really good guac/black bean salsas if you ever want to swap some recipes sometime!
