43 Days of Summer-Recycling

Money for Collecting Cans

When I was a kid, my family always had us walking up and down the road collecting cans to recycle for extra money. Did we strike rich with it? Not really, but I think it teaches some valuable lessons- hard work, money management, and environmental consciousness.

So while we were in Attica, Grandpa Ron took Isaac and Olivia on the golf cart down the road to collect cans for recycling. They got a couple of bags full. When they were finish Grandpa Ron helped Isaac tie up the bags and the headed to the local recycling yard to turn in the cans for a few bucks.

While both kids did the recycling, Isaac is all about it. He is also taking our cans out to the garage and wanting to take our bags to recycle. We don't drink enough out of cans but to go about once a year and we only get about $5, but as long as they're learning the lessons, works for me!
